I’m glad the driver aborted the pass with centimetres left between me and him

Pretty aggressive aborted MGIF, road narrows because of traffic island before a roundabout. At least the driver had the thought to abort the pass - but why attempt it in the first place? After the roundabout, there are three sets of traffic lights in the next 250 metres. He passed me 20 seconds later and lost no time whatsoever.
